The Events
On April 20-21, 2024, Water women from across the United States are coming to San Diego to attend the 2nd Annual Water Women Empowerment Weekend, hosted by the SDLA.
We will inspire water women to empower one another in the lifesaving community. Saturday will consist of lifesaving activities and seminars on wellness, mental health, nutrition and mentorship. We will then put our skills to the test with a competition in the afternoon!
Sunday we invite all young aspiring water women to join us on the beach to learn about the career and sport of lifesaving. We will be paying it forward to the community and getting everyone involved in lifesaving!

Our Mission
The goal of this event is to provide lifesaving agencies the scaffolding and skill sets to empower their female lifeguards. Through speakers and break out sessions, we hope to spread the positivity and professionalism we have in place here at San Diego Fire-Rescue to our fellow lifeguard agencies and water women so that they may in turn promote growth, change, and empowerment for their agencies.

The Inspiration
The inspiration behind this event stemmed from a positive, uplifting work experience here at San Diego Fire-Rescue. We have mentors and various points of contact that we can access daily with any problems. We are supported by our male and female co-workers, as they encourage us to challenge ourselves and work hard. We want every female whether they are an aspiring lifeguard, water women, or current lifeguard, to know what a good work environment is. We want there to be change in agencies that do not empower their water women and with this event, and believe this is possible.
